Dover Park Hospice: Neon & Black (Working process)

Plan A

First of all, I tried to use the plastic rod to make a glass frames and want to put the neon and create the shape. But I found the first problem: The plastic rod is not to easy to make a frames and difficult to fixed our head.

So I gave up the plan.

Plan B

The second plan, is that I found the laboratory goggles.

At first, I tried to remove the glass, I though that should will be better. But, if remove the glass is to soft.

When I put the neon lights, it's can not keep the shapes. So finally, I decided to work with the glass, it's can fix shape for plastic goggles.

I want to make the small hole, which are use the neon light to through and hold.

but I found if use the drill bits, not easy to make the same size of holes, so I use the punch for leather to make the hole. I didn't expect it's not bad.

Because we need use the black color, and the goggle are transparent. So I spray them to black with spray lacque.

The effect of the first spray paint is bring

Then I change to another spray paint, the effect of this one is matte. I think this effect is better than the first one .

(The second one is special for the plastic)

Difficulty and Repair mode:

But they all has same problems. It's all will drop the color.Even I tried to make them to dry for few days. But are still sticky color on hands.

a. I also tried coloring with nail polish, but the nail polish can not be apply evenly and also can't stay on the plastics, you can remove it whole piece.

b. I don't know why this two painting all can't work with the goggles (even the plastic spray paint). And I tried to spray a layer of protective spray paint.

Finally, I try to fix it, want it do not rub off color, so I use the leather cord with a width stick on the goggle.

It's butter than before when you touch it, and your fingers won't stick to the color so easily. But it doesn't look that good. Anyway, after this process, I know that I spray paint can not spray directly onto the plastic. I think it should be have a base coat before work.

Final Work:

Thank God! The final work is not so bad when look it at a distance.

When turn off the light and the background color is black, the neon light effect will be more pronounced. I had the honor of my design can be worn, and joined the show.
